The Jumbo-Teeter Makes My Day

I live at a grocery store crossroads. Within a few blocks of my house are a Giant, a Safeway, and a Harris Teeter, but they’re all very small and I find that if I make a list of more than five items, chances are they won’t have at least one thing on it. So on Sundays, I usually drive an extra mile to the nearest jumbo-Giant to make my big grocery trip, which has been serving me pretty well.

Today, I drove an extra two miles to go to a jumbo-Harris Teeter, partially in the interest of simply doing something different, and partially due to the fact that my coworker texted me to let me know that they were well-stocked in my favorite Kleenex box design (which she currently has in her office, and I express envy almost every time I see it).

You know what? Jumbo-Teeter is a million times better than jumbo-Giant. Better selection, better produce, more organic choices, nicer employees, and miraculously, cheaper prices than jumbo-Giant. I bought a few things that I’m particularly excited about… Fancy imported seasoned red wine vinegar! Bakery-made mini-angelfood cakes (they’re good-sized, and only 2 points each)! Fat-free Reddi-whip! Cranberry-flavored sparkling water! And, of course, the Kleenex! I feel like I’ve reached a higher plane. I don’t think I can ever go back.

Food Find: Boboli whole wheat pizza crust

While the discovery that Pizza Hut’s Thin & Crispy Veggie-Lover’s pizza is only 4 points a slice was a very exciting one, I was seeking a point-friendly way to make pizza from home. Boboli was the only pre-made whole wheat crust I could find, so I tried it out… SO yummy!

On my half, I put ¼ cup of Ragu Old World Style pizza sauce and 2 ounces of shredded reduced-fat mozzarella. I top it with a ton of veggies (green pepper and mushrooms are my favorite) and cooked, crumbled Italian turkey sausage (Shady Brook Farms is the brand I buy).

I cut the pizza into 8 slices, and half the pizza—4 whole slices!—ends up being 12 points total. Which, for me, is a perfectly reasonable quantity of points to spend on dinner.
